Alumni History

Historical Background of BL College Alumni Association, Khulna. By this time, more than a century has elapsed, B.L. College has produced a good number of reputed Teachers, Doctors, Engineers, Diplomats, Litérateurs, Advocates, Civil and Military personnels, Political leaders, Ministers and experts in other fields. Thousands of ex-students of B.L. College are working all over the world, but no attempt has yet been made to form an organisation of the old students. A good number of ex-students of B.L. College are now staying in Khulna and Daulatpur. Some of them are engaged in professional activities and some are enjoying retired life. All of them desire to meet each other and exchange well-being. But none of them had taken any initiative to make any forum where the old classmates and college mates can meet. It was in September, 2010 when Professor Harunur Rashid who spent almost half a century with B.L. College talked to one of his old students Professor Amal Kanti Biswas, an ex-student and an ex-principal of B.L.College about regular meetings between ex-students. They had a spontaneous decision to discuss the matter with some other ex-students. Professor Harunur Rashid requested Professor Jafar Imam, an ex-student and an ex-principal of B.L.College to call a meeting at his residence on some suitable day. Professor Harunur Rashid, Professor Mujibar Rahman, Professor Jafar Imam, Professor Amal Kanti Biswas with advocate Firoz Ahmed, Journalist Shaikh Abu Hasan met together on 17 September, 2010 and decided to form an association by holding another meeting of more ex-students. The matter was announced in local newspapers and fifteenth ex-students of B.L.College attended the first preparatory meeting held in the auditorium of the Umesh Chandra Public Library on 8 October, 2010. The meeting resolved unanimously to form a non-political association of ex-students entitled “B.L. College Alumni Association, Khulna”. The meeting also elected Professor Harunur Rashid as the President and Professor Md. Mazharul Hannan as the General Secretary of the Alumni Association. A committee was formed to draft a constitution of the association. The draft constitution was passed unanimously on 19 November, 2010. It is extremely an unfortunate and painful event for the new organisation that Professor Amal Kanti Biswas, one of the sponsors suffered a massive heart attack and died suddenly on 16 December, 2010.
